Which Nikon digital camera is better?

I’m looking to purchase a new digital camera and after reading reviews have decided to go with a Nikon but not sure which one. What do you think is better, the Nikon CoolPix P90 or Nikon D3000?
Thanks you in advance for your help!

Different cameras and different price points, the D3000 (with a lens) is at least twice the price of a P90. If you want an easy to use camera which is useful for most situations (wide angle for landscapes, 24x zoom for sports) then the P90 will suit you well, it is also relatively small compared to a DSLR. The D3000 is more suitable if you intend to get into photography more seriously, it will allow you more options to take control.

Well these are two completely different cameras.
The P90 is a compact camera, the D3000 is a DSLR. It is also much bigger, heavier but way better at image quality, handling, speed, noise etc.

If you just need photos and don’t care about quality, noise etc, then you could buy the P90. If you care about those things, want to change lenses, want to do things manually also and much much more, then you should go for the D3000.

I have an article on my blog about ‘Which DSLR to buy’ and if you really need it, what’s important and what’s not etc – http://the-digital-photographer.blogspot.com/2009/11/what-dslr-should-i-buy.html

The D3000. It’s a more serious camera that you can grow with. The P 90 is what they call a bridge camera. It’s a step above those credit card size cameras, but still falls behind a D-SLR.If you just want a point & shoot camera, get the P 90. And be prepared to read it’s 175 page owners manual.

Better is a very subjective assesment. Nothing in this world is black and white, so you cannot say anything is better than anything else. If I ask you is it better to be the President of the US or just a nobody who works a regular job?

So back on point. The P90 is very capable camera, it does pretty much everything, decently well. The D3000 on the other hand is an SLR, it will do nothing until you attach a lens to it. Then it will do a specific job. The SLR can do lots of tasks very well provided it is correctly used and equipped.

So you see you can’t just say one is better than the other.

    That is a "No brainer"
It is like asking which is the best car a Ford Fiesta or an Aston Martin DB9
The best camera out of the two you mentioned was a Nikon D3000
